      As for the pinching door lock knobs, you could always just replace them with some of these old school knobs:

      Or just remove the knob and put a plug over the hole. The knob is only visually useful, except for locking (mostly unintentionally), but there's a button for that. The reason for them being there in the first place escapes me.
