      Just pick up a replacement plug:
      http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-15-Amp-125-Volt-Rubber-Grounding-Plug-R60-515PR-000/100011602 . There is even a video showing how easy . . . they do confuse things a bit by using a different plug with an extra wire.

      Thanks for video. Looks simple, but I'll probably enlist the help of a friend who knows more about wiring. I'll try it though, thanks!
      
      I'm guessing that it broke from 3.5 years of wear, even though I've always treated the charger with great care, never letting it hang from the outlet I've always rested the charger on a table right next to the outlet.

      As flyingsherpa said, if you are under 3yrs, 36K miles, they should replace it under warranty.
      
      If not, something like this should work:

      I love that plug! I used it (and its female counterpart) to make my own 8' 12/3 extension cord for my home L1 EVSE setup. Very beefy and has a nice rubberized texture.
