What if we required by law all consumer level autos under 8000 GWT to get at least 20 miles of electric range by 2018

How much less oil do you think we would we consume? Ontop of that we dump natural gas for power plants and use CNG as well as Biofuels for our range extenders.

Invest in wind and solar and modern nuclear were we actually recycle our fuel instead of buying a fuel rod thats 80% good under ground. that with responsible drilling we could be energy independent.

That doesn't mean we wont import fuel or energy because some times its cheaper to export the fuel then to ship it across the country. Hell even though we import more than we produce right now we still export fuel and oil.

The main concern is to have it so where money isnt leaving this country and not comming back.

Batteries are too expensive for the government to be forcing auto makers to produce cars that use them. The best thing the government can do right now is step back and allow high gas prices to drive consumer demand to something else. Allow capitalism to do its thing. The second best thing government can do is pull our troops out of the Middle East. The money we spend on oil is sent overseas to finance the enemy that we are trying to kill. It's insane.

The sad part of EREV is that batteries are also made overseas. Instead of sending our money over to the Middle East to support radical Islam, we will be sending our money over to the Far East to support Communism.
